Next season, the young Australian motorcycle start will take part in the Italian Road Racing Championship with the Leopard Racing Italia team.
After the announcement of its entry in the Italian Road Racing Championship (CIV), the Leopard Racing Italia team is defining all the details for the entry in the new adventure they will face in 2019. Today we officially know the name of the first rider: Joel Kelso, a 15-year-old rising star from the Australian motorcycle scene.
Riding from 4 years old, Joel is following in the footsteps of Australian Road Race legends. From the age of seven, Joel competed in Dirt track and won multiple Australian and State Titles, a notable milestone being a clean sweep at the Casey Stoner Cup in the 65cc, 85cc, 2 stroke, and 85cc, 4 stroke classes.
In 2013 Joel moved to Road Racing and he has not looked back, on his Metrakit 70 he has proven competitive, not only winning his class, but dicing for the overall podium positions against machines of greater capacity achieving close to maximum points and claimed both the MRRDA and Pirelli titles.
In 2014, on his new RMU 70, Joel continued on his winning way, claiming the MRRDA 70cc title, as well as taking overall podium positions. A highlight of 2014 was an opportunity to travel to England and to compete in a round of the FAB racing series, Joel was competitive against far more experienced riders, and finished the weekend with a 5th placing, within tenths of the leaders.
Invited to complete in the 2015 Troy Bayliss Classic, Joel was one of a number of riders being groomed in the Dorna accredited motoDNA Junior Development program, Already on first name terms in the MotoGP paddock.
Australian passport, Italian persistence: to integrate himself to the best, Joel has chosen to leave his family life in Australia and to move to Emilia-Romagna, the land of engines in the heart of the Italian Peninsula, where for all the winter he will continue his preparation and will train by becoming familiar with the most beautiful Italian tracks with the aim of fighting immediately for the top positions.
