The 2018 cycling season is progressing quickly and already the Tour Alsace is on the menu. This tough five day stage race in the East of France is as always one of the highlights of Leopard Pro Cycling's season.
ROSTER Tour Alsace: Jan Brockhoff, Alexander Krieger, Pit Leyder, Filip Maciejuk, Szymon Rekita & Luc Wirtgen - DS: Markus Zingen
With a strong six men roster, Leopard Pro Cycling comes to the Alsace region with great confidence. The first part of the season has been really successful and the entire team wants to repeat the great performances in the next important weeks with the Tour Alsace and the upcoming Deutschland Tour. In 2017, the Leopard team could be found in front on multiple occasions. In the second stage, Alexander Krieger sprinted to third place in the tough uphill finish in Blotzheim and also Aksel Nõmmela and Szymon Rekita came back home with good results. Especially Rekita rode an active race, finished eleventh on the climb to Lac Blanc and finished in the same position overall. In the years before, Alexander Krieger also was able to have several top ten results and also wore the jersey for most combative rider.
In this year's edition, Leopard Pro Cycling will be competing against 25 teams from 14 different countries. The race starts on Wednesday with a 4,7 kilometers long team time trial in which the teams will be divided in half and thus will have two seperate times on the clock. The day after, the first stage leads the riders to Sélestat where a bunch sprint is to be expected. The first fourteen kilometers are all downhill, before the remainder of the stage will be on flat roads. Day three and four will decide over the overall victory. These stage to respectively Lac Blanc and La Planche des Belles Filles cover plenty of altitude meters given the fact that there are already eleven categorised climbs along the route and both stages end on the summit of the climbs. The final day to Dannemarie will again not be easy, but there is not much room to change things around drastically. For Leopard Pro Cycling, GC rider Szymon Rekita wants to improve on his result of last year when he finished the Tour Alsace in 11th.
Szymon Rekita: "I am looking forward to my next goal of the season, which is the upcoming Tour Alsace. I for sure want to improve on my eleventh position of last year. I expect a really hard and selective race, but I am well prepared since my last training rides were on the climbs and I think that my shape is looking good. We have again a strong team at the start and after an amazing first part of the season, we can be confident of our abilities and have good results again. “
