New rider joins Leopard: Mauro Schmid

Although the season is already underway, Leopard Pro Cycling happily announces that it has signed a new rider for the 2020 season. Swiss rider Mauro Schmid will be the fifteenth rider for the Luxembourgish formation.

Mauro Schmid is a very talented young and versatile rider that has experience on the road, track and in cyclocross. Already in the junior ranks, Schmid showed great potential and he continued to do so in the U23 ranks. Last year his talents really became clear as he not only rode to the U23 Swiss National Road Race title, but also finished eleventh at the U23 European Time Trial Championships and 21st at the U23 World Road Race Championships. The 20-year-old rider was set to join Team Monti - the Deceuninck - Quick-Step development team -, but since this team folded, Leopard Pro Cycling stepped in and was more than happy to offer a solution. This year, Schmid was already part of the Swiss National Team at the traditional Mallorcan races. In the difficult Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana (UCI 1.1), Schmid crossed the line in eighteenth position.

Mauro Schmid: "I am very happy to continue the 2020 season as part of Leopard Pro Cycling. I can't wait to further develop as a rider and I am sure that Leopard and it's professional infrastructure offer me this chance. This year I hope to make another step forward and have good results at the big U23 races. My biggest goal for this year is to reach the podium at the World Championships in Martigny, Switzerland. Also, I want to be part of the Swiss Team Pursuit Team at the Olympic Games in Tokio."

Markus Zingen, Team Manager: "We are very happy to welcome Mauro in our team as we had already an eye on him in the past seasons. We are convinced that he can make the next steps pretty soon and that he's able to make some nice results with a well-balanced program between his road and track activities."
