Team Leopard Racing Italia experiences a tough race weekend at Mugello

The second round of 2019 Italian ELF CIV Moto3 Championship, held at Mugello Circuit, definitely didn't go as planned for Team Leopard Racing Italia. A series of unlucky events prevented both Joel Kelso and Matteo Ripamonti to score good results and so the team couldn't prove its technical merit and competitiveness.

After the controversial accident happened in Race 1, which wasn't his fault, Joel Kelso obviously hoped for some glory in Race 2. The talented Australian took part in Sunday's race despite suffering a huge cut and some bruising on his upper lip and chin. However, Joel became one of the victims of today's tricky conditions, as he fell in the rain while trying to reach the top 10. Matteo Ripamonti, instead, performed a good comeback to 11th place after his Honda shut off before the start. The young Leopard Racing Italia rider can be happy with his lap times, since he was as fast as the riders fighting for the podium.

For Team Leopard Racing Italia, the next round of 2019 Italian ELF CIV Moto3 Championship will take place from 28th to 30th June at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, in Imola.

Joel Kelso (Leopard Racing Italia - #66 Honda NSF250RW)

"It wasn't the best weekend for us. In Race 1 I had to retire due to an unlucky event, that wasn't my fault: a rider in front of me hit a cone placed on the straight and that cone finally hit me on my face. I participated in Race 2 despite suffering a lot of pain. The conditions were very difficult and I crashed while making up several positions. I'm sorry for the whole team. We finished the weekend with a bitter taste in our mouths, but at the same time we are even more eager to redeem ourselves at the next round."

Matteo Ripamonti (Leopard Racing Italia - #5 Honda NSF250RW)

"Unfortunately my bike shut off before the race start and this prevented me from getting a good result. It's a pity, because my laptimes were very interesting and so I could have scored valuable points for the championship standings. We'll try to be stronger at Imola."

Alessandro Tonucci (Leopard Racing Italia - Team Manager)

"Today all the riders met very tricky conditions. Many of them fell, even during the sighting lap, and this proved how difficult it was to race today. Unfortunately Joel made a mistake while making up positions. The team had asked him to just finish the race, because in 'elimination races' like this you can get a good result by just staying on the bike. However, his lack of experience led Joel to crash and so, once again, he scored no points. If we don't consider what happened here in Race 1, Joel has fell in each race happened so far and for sure this is not good at all. We really hope that Joel will redeem himself after such a disappointing start of the season. For what concerns Matteo, he provided a very good performance: he had the same pace as the front riders and for sure he could have fought for the podium. Unfortunately, he unintentionally shut off his bike on the grid and so he lost a lot of time. Despite this, Matteo didn't give up at all and so he recovered many positions and scored some good points."
