Louis Coqueret saves Tour de Bretagne by winning KOM jersey
The man loves his polka dots. After wearing the KOM jersey already seven days in this year's Tour de l'Avenir, Louis Coqueret now wins this classification at the Tour de Bretagne Cycliste.
The Tour de Bretagne summarized
The race had barely started or Louis Coqueret found himself back in the breakaway group during stage one. With many KOM points on the road, the 20-year-old did quite the job in kickstarting his Tour de Bretagne campaign. Jan Maas did the same, as the finished as fourth in the opening stage, being very close to a solo victory, but getting reeled in just before the line. In the days that followed, the entire team rode a very satisfying race and were attentive at all times. Louis managed to add more KOM points to his total, whereas Jarno Mobach and Jan Maas were involved in attacks to try and win a stage, both impressive in their attempts.
With Jan Maas as fourth in the GC, disaster struck at the fourth day when the pack rode from Ploeren to Louisfert. In the final, Maas was involved in a crash which did not allow him to continue to race and fight for a stage (and maybe even overall) win. That Colin Heiderscheid won the bunch sprint and claimed position five on the day was a motivating plaster on the wound.
The remaining Leopard Pro Cycling riders continued their journey through the Bretagne region. Heiderscheid took another top ten sprint result, Coqueret racked in more and more KOM points, Mobach showed his good shape in the form of good and dangerous attacks, being supported in an optimal way by Haller and Lovidius. Although a stage win was within the possibilities all week long, the team put in a lot of effort to make everyday count. In the end, Coqueret takes home the well-deserved KOM jersey.

"I am very happy to win this polka dot jersey, especially in a highly-rated race like the Tour de Bretagne. I am even happier that I was able to wear the jersey from start to finish. The team raced really well all week long and helped me where possible to help me secure the points. The Leopard team can be happy with how we performed at the Tour de Bretagne. We did a good race, although we had some bad luck losing Jan when he was in a very good position for the general classification."
