Colin Heiderscheid is the new Luxembourgish Elite Road Race Champion!

A dream has come true for 24-year-old Colin Heiderscheid. Today he became national road race champion in the elite category.

The Luxembourgish National Road Race Championships summarized
71 elite riders gathered in Nospelt, just 10 kilometers northwest of the nation's capital. Quickly after the start was given, a sextet escaped from the peloton. With Colin Heiderscheid amongst them, the situation was a satisfying one for Leopard Pro Cycling. Especially since the break got an advantage of over five minutes over a chasing group of twenty riders halfway through the race. As expected, the chasers became more nervous as the race progressed but the lead was not dropping fast enough and the team started to believe that something special was possible. In the front, six riders became four and in the bunch, Colin's teammates - Arthur Kluckers, Cedric Pries and Mats Wenzel - had all under control even though the suspected competitors pulled fairly hard. However, their efforts came too late and the four riders in front were going to battle for the victory. On the last climb, Colin Heiderscheid dropped the others and was able to seal the deal in the sprint. He claimed the national title in a great manner, giving a nice follow-up to his already strong results this season at the Oberösterreich Rundfahrt, Le Tour de Bretagne and Olympias Tour. In the coming 365 days, Heiderscheid will ride all of his road races in the Luxembourgish tricolore.

Colin Heiderscheid

"It's truely unbelievable that I took this victory. I think it‘s gonna take some days to realize the fact that I am the new national road race champion. The plan was to go in the breakaway, but in all honesty, I did not expect that we were would make it to the finish. The group was working really good together because everybody knew that it was needed if we wanted to fight for the win. I am so happy that I could win and that I am now allowed to wear the national champions jersey the coming year."
