Adrián Fernández takes third consecutive podium at Phillip Island

Le0pard Racing completes the Australian Grand Prix with the third consecutive podium for Adrián Fernández, who took third position today, while teammate Ángel Piqueras crossed the finish line in 10th:

  • Sunny skies and dry conditions greeted us for race day at Phillip Island, with Le0pard Racing starting today’s race from the first and third rows of the grid, with Adrián Fernández in the 3rd spot and Ángel Piqueras in the 8th.
  • On a challenging start to the race, both Le0pard riders lost a few positions, with Adrián Fernández sitting in 5th and Ángel Piqueras in 10th, recovering to 6th soon.
  • Within a very crowded and tight group, the overtaking didn’t stop until the chequered flag. With 17 laps to go, Adrián Fernández moved up to 3rd, making the move into the lead soon, while Ángel Piqueras was still 6th.
  • The positions were constantly changing, with the two Spaniards being overtaken, but fighting their way back up again. With 10 laps to go, Adrián Fernández and Ángel Piqueras were back in 3rd and 6th respectively.
  • One lap later, Adrián Fernández hit the front again, fighting to hold the position, being overtaken but giving it back. Still within a busy group, 4 laps to go, Adrián Fernández dropped to 6th, but recovered to claim his third consecutive podium taking a well-fought 3rd place in a hectic race.
  • Ángel Piqueras, for his part, started to struggle as the laps went by, dropping to 12th with 5 laps to go, crossing the finish line in 10th place at the end.
  • We’re racing again next week!
It was a very difficult race, so I’m very happy to have claimed another podium today! As we know from the past, Moto3 races are always tight in Phillip Island, with a big leading group. When I took the lead, I tried to open up a gap, but I couldn’t. It’s not easy to get away from the other riders on this track. In any case, we did a solid race today, and we are maintaining a very good consistency, not only on Sundays, but throughout the whole weekend. We are getting there!”

“It wasn’t the race we expected. It was a very difficult one, not only because we didn’t have much time in dry conditions during the weekend, but also because it was pretty tight. I hope we can do better in Thailand next week!”
