Gran Premio de Aragón: Sunday

Le0pard Racing completes the Aragon Grand Prix with Adrián Fernández crossing the finish line in 11th place while Ángel Piqueras runs off the track and crashes in the early stages of the race:

  • Sunday dawned at MotorLand with partly cloudy skies and mixed conditions on track, with the race declared dry.
  • Le0pard Racing started from the second and sixth rows of the grid, with Ángel Piqueras in the 4th spot and Adrián Fernández in the 17th.
  • On a great start to the race, Ángel Piqueras moved up to 2nd, while teammate Adrián Fernández climbed up from 17th to 8th, soon overtaking for 5th. The Spaniard continued his way up, sitting in 2nd place 15 laps to go, having recovered no less than fifteen places.
  • In the meantime, Ángel Piqueras had dropped to 15th place after a clash and tried to push to recover the places lost. It was 13 laps to go when the Spaniard ran off the track and crashed at Turn 9, rejoining the race but entering the pits.
  • For his part, Adrián Fernández held on to 3rd position, but dropped to 7th as the overtaking didn’t stop within a busy group.
  • Adrián Fernández tried to push back, but struggled as he was overtaken to 11th place 9 laps to go, recovering to 9th later, but crossing the finish line in 11th position at the end.
  • We’re racing again next week!

“It wasn’t the result I was hoping for, but I’m happy with the race I did today. We had to face the consequences of a difficult qualifying, and despite of it, we’ve been able to make a great comeback in the early stages of the race. I felt good on the start, but I started to have some difficulties after the first few laps. We’ve gain experience ahead of the next race!”

“After having a good feeling throughout the whole weekend, this wasn’t the outcome we expected for the race. Starting from the second row of the grid and having the pace, we were hoping to fight today, but at the end it wasn’t possible. We’ll try again in Misano next week”
