Grand Prix of Aragon: Saturday

Le0pard Racing will start tomorrow’s race at MotorLand from the third row of the grid with David Almansa in 7th position. Adrián Fernández won’t take part in the race as he has been declared unfit:

  • Saturday started with a positive Free Practice 2 under sunny skies at MotorLand.
  • David Almansa topped the timesheets this morning with a new all-time lap record, clocking a 1’56.922 on his last lap. Adrián Fernández had a good start to the day as well, finishing in 4th place with a 1’57.335, improving his feeling throughout the session.
  • Later in the afternoon, a difficult Q2 was in store for both Le0pard riders.
  • David Almansa set a 1’57.192 early in the session, starting tomorrow’s race from the 7th spot on the grid. A crash in his second run prevented him from improving further.
  • Adrián Fernández, for his part, suffered a crash at the beginning of the session, not being able to set a time in Q2. The Spaniard went to the Medical Centre for a check-up and was declared unfit after being diagnosed with a small fracture in his right thumb.
“I’m not happy with today’s result, because we were aiming for more. This morning I had a good feeling when riding alone, and I felt strong for qualifying. I tried to push for a good first lap in Q2, aiming to improve on my last flying lap, but I crashed at the beginning of it. We couldn’t improve any further, but the most important thing is that I feel good after the crash, ready to take the confidence we’ve had all weekend into the race”

“The weekend was going really well. I felt comfortable with the bike, regaining confidence and finding improvements in every session. Things turned the other way around today in qualifying, where a crash and the corresponding injury prevented me from racing tomorrow. I will undergo surgery on Tuesday, hoping to recover and be back on the bike as soon as possible”
