Grand Prix von Österreich: Sunday

Le0pard Racing completes the Austrian Grand Prix with Ángel Piqueras crossing the finish line in 4th place after fighting for the podium, while teammate Adrián Fernández takes 6th:

  • Sunday dawned with cloudy skies but warm conditions in Spielberg.
  • Le0pard Racing started today’s race from the third and fourth rows of the grid, with Ángel Piqueras in the 8th spot and Adrián Fernández in the 12th.
  • On a good start to the race, both Spaniards moved up positions. Ángel Piqueras overtook for 4th, while Adrián Fernández did so for 11th, but soon sat in 8th.
  • After completing the Long Lap Penalty 18 laps to go, Ángel Piqueras was placed 11th, quickly recovering the positions he had lost. A few laps later, he was already overtaking for 7th, catching the group ahead of him 11 laps to go.
  • Adrián Fernández, for his part, started to push from 8th, catching the riders in front of him and sitting in 5th with 7 laps to go. Meanwhile, Ángel Piqueras had continued his way up, reaching the podium positions and moving up to 2nd place.
  • Both Le0pard riders continued to fight within a large leading group, where the overtaking didn’t stop until the chequered flag.
  • At the end, after dropping some positions, taking them back and fighting for the podium in the last lap, Ángel Piqueras crossed the finish line in 4th place, while Adrián Fernández did so in 6th.
  • We’re already looking forward to the next one in Aragón in two weeks time!
“I had a good rhythm today and, despite the penalty, we were able to make a good comeback. I’m happy with the race we did, but we missed the podium, which I thought was quite possible to achieve once I got back in the group. It’s a pity, but after all I’m a rookie, and I’m still learning and gaining experience in the category. We’ll keep the work on towards Aragón”

“It’s been a difficult race today. We started from the fourth row of the grid, and the race was a fast one, which made us have to make up a lot of time in order to catch the leading group. Looking at the positives of the weekend, the feeling with the bike was great, which gives me confidence ahead of Aragón, where we’ll try to take more steps forward”
