Round 5: Circuit Ricardo Tormo

The fifth round of the Moto4 European Cup at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo came to an end for the Leopard Junior Team with a podium from Edoardo Savino in a red-flagged Race 2, where he finished 2nd after crashing out of Race 1 at the final corner of the last lap while also fighting for the podium. Oliver Cantos completed the weekend in Valencia with 14th and 13th place finishes. Ziven Rozul Abiy Salim and Kevin Cancellieri took part in the Last Chance Race, with the Indonesian rider crossing the finish line in 9th position, while an early crash brought the Italian’s race to an end.

Edoardo Savino, DNF (Race 1) | 2nd (Race 2)

“The weekend started very well, as we immediately put ourselves at the front from Free Practice on Friday. On Saturday, unfortunately, qualifying didn’t go as we wanted, starting from 10th on the grid. In Race 1, I moved to the front straight away in the first laps. However, after a good fight for the podium places, I tried to make an overtake at the final corner on the last lap, but crashed out of the race. In Race 2, I did more or less the same thing, but the red flag came out at the final corner, so I didn’t have the chance to try an overtake again. We took our fourth podium of the season, and I would like to thank my team, my family and all my sponsors for their continuous support. I’m looking forward to Aragon up next!”

Oliver Cantos, 14th (Race 1) | 13th (Race 2)

“I’m very happy with the progress we have made this weekend. We had some problems on Friday, but we were able to solve them on Saturday, having a good qualifying. Race 1 didn’t go as I would have liked due to an incident that happened right in front of me, leaving me behind in the group. Race 2 could also have gone better, but overall, I feel we have improved a lot this weekend, getting better step by step. I can’t wait to be back on the bike at MotorLand!”

Ziven Rozul Abiy Salim, 9th (Last Chance Race)

“Another round is over and I have to say that it was quite a challenging weekend. The lap times in Valencia were so tight that it was very difficult for me to make a difference. We kept pushing throughout the weekend, but we didn’t make it into the main races. We will keep working together with the team to turn what we’ve learned into actual improvements. I hope we can take a step forward at the next round in Aragon.”

Kevin Cancellieri, DNF (Last Chance Race)

“Unfortunately, this weekend in Valencia didn’t go as we had hoped. During qualifying, I wasn’t able to secure the position I needed to qualify directly for the race, so I had to go through the Last Chance. Unfortunately, during the race, I made contact with another rider and crashed at Turn 2 on the first lap, bringing my weekend to a very early end. We leave Valencia a little disappointed, but above all with even more motivation, strength and determination to keep fighting to achieve our goals. See you in MotorLand!”
