The sixth round of the Moto4 European Cup came to an end for the Leopard Junior Team at MotorLand with another podium from Edoardo Savino, who finished 3rd after a tight fight for the podium to claim his fifth of the season so far. Oliver Cantos finished the race in 20th position, ahead of Ziven Rozul Abiy Salim in 25th, as the Indonesian rider made it to the main race for the first time. Kevin Cancellieri, on the other hand, tried his best in the Last Chance Race, finishing 12th.
Edoardo Savino, 3rd
“The weekend didn’t start perfectly, as we struggled a bit at first. However, with some changes, we were immediately able to move towards the front in Free Practice 2. In qualifying, I was able to set the third-fastest time in my group while riding alone, which put me 6th on the grid. The race started well, as I immediately moved up to 4th. The leader managed to pull away at first, but by Lap 5, we had caught him. Unfortunately, I made a mistake because I hadn’t set the lap counter and hadn’t asked the team to put it on my pit board, so I didn’t know how many laps were left. I thought the final lap was the penultimate one and didn’t want to make a move yet. It was actually the last lap. Despite the mistake, we finished on the podium, so I’m happy with the result. I want to thank the team, all my sponsors and my family!”
Oliver Cantos, 20th
“This weekend at MotorLand went very well from the start. We were always inside the top 10 and had a good pace throughout the weekend. I had to go through Q1 after having a lap cancelled in Practice, which meant I couldn’t qualify directly, but we managed to get through it. However, I qualified 16th on the grid, which was not ideal. Anyway, we were able to fight within the group during today’s race, so I’m happy with the progress we made. The team worked very hard all weekend and I felt very comfortable on the bike. Let’s see if we can do even better in Misano!”
Ziven Rozul Abiy Salim, 25th
“My performance this weekend was much better than in the previous rounds. I kept working on improving from day one and, this time, we were able to make it through to the main race, which I’m very happy about. We still have a lot of work to do, but I feel we took an important step forward this weekend in Aragon. Thank you to the team and everyone who supports me!”
Kevin Cancellieri, 12th (Last Chance Race)
“It was a difficult weekend overall. I was hoping to perform better and qualify for the main race, bringing home a good result, but unfortunately, things didn’t go the way I had hoped. I’m going home a little disappointed, but also with plenty of motivation to start again and try to give my best. Now the focus is on Misano, my home track, where I hope to give the team and myself something to be proud of.”
